Why settle for a 3.5 GPA when I could get a 4.0

Ugh. The economy sucks these days, no? I can’t find a job anywhere. Not the local amusement park, not the nearby mall, not even the fast food joints down the street were willing to give me a job for the summer. I’m a good worker. Reliable and smart, cheerful and perky, always on time, and never grumpy when sufficiently caffeinated. But I’m small, at 5’0”, I frequently get asked if who my homeroom teacher is. No one believes me at first when I say I’m really 19, usually their guess is about 15 or 16. Who’s going to give some baby-faced college brat a summer job, when there are adults with children who apply as well? No one. And that’s my problem. I’m way over my head in loans, which I was beyond lucky to even be able to get, and soon, I have to buy supplies and text books. My parents are no help, thinking I’m going to college for all the wrong reasons. They say I need to take time off and work, or just drop out and find a job. Yeah, drop out of college when I’m a Dean’s List student, with prospects to get into some of the best Grad schools in the country? But that’s the thing, my major is wrong, my friends are too weird, and I’m having too much fun. Why settle for a 3.5 GPA when I could get a 4.0 if I cut back on the clubs and movie nights with friends? I’m just wasting my time, so I might as well just drop out. Well, I’m not. I’ll get through somehow, borrow text books, work late night dining hall shifts to make ends meet.
