My friend told me about Mechanical Turk about 5 years ago

My friend told me about Mechanical Turk about 5 years ago. My wife and I both spend a fair amount of time on the computer and were interested in making money while at home. Since it happened to be around Christmas time when we created our Turk accounts we really just expected to make enough money to buy a present or 2 off of Amazon. At the time we were taking HITs initially they were pretty mundane tasks, such as identifying CD covers or labeling streets. All in all I think we made about $30 for a couple weeks of work, taking shifts while watching a movie or making dinner. After our first encounter we were kind of burnt out because the limited HITs were being battled for by so many people, we had to have cat like reflexes to accept one before it was claimed by someone else. I’ve just recently come back to check out how it’s evolved since reading about it again. This time around we’ve only made a couple of dollars but it’s a much more laid back and interesting experience. The HITs are taken from a wide range of companies and individuals now, some are still a little mundane but some require critical thinking, creativity and intensive attention to detail. For me, the experience has been mostly positive and I think more kinds of this type of work will become more common in the future. I look forward to continuing to work with Mechanical Turk through this Christmas!
