I’d never won a fight in my life

I’d never won a fight in my life, even though I’d been in them every day from kindergarten through fourth grade. Every day, I got taunted, I lost my temper, I charged someone bigger than me, and I got beat down. So the awkward new seventh-grader at my day care saw this and thought kicking my ass would be a good way to gain acceptance. Never mind that I was four years younger. Well, when we faced off, he busted out the old Karate Kid crane kick. I scampered back from it, slipped on gravel and fell. He thought he’d won, even though he didn’t even touch me, and threw his hands in the air victoriously. I wasn’t going to let it go down like that. I got to my feet, leaped onto his back, and sunk my teeth in. He went down screaming — I didn’t even have to throw a punch. Even better, once the other kids saw I’d do what it took to win, I never got challenged again.
